Success by Leeann Starkey is an SSA and piano work that opens with a jazz-inspired introduction before settling into its lyrical main section. With a thoughtful text centered on the idea that doing your best defines success - not wealth or material things - this piece offers expressive part writing that is approachable for developing choirs.
In this musical setting of Mary Howitt's classic poem, the choir takes on the roles of the two main characters: the sly spider (set in a major key to reflect its charm) and the cautious fly (potrayed in a minor key to convey its firm and wise replies - for a time, at least). Your singers will enjoy bringing this story and lesson to life! Available in SA and TB.
Read about one of Leeann's most recent compositions, "Now Is the Time" - it was used as the finale for one of the final ICC concerts of the 2024-2025 season and will be released through ICC Publishing House in June of 2025!
Check out Leeann's newly published songs in the Compositions tab: Still, Still, Still, We Thank Thee, Be Still, and O Holy Night. They are great choices for upcoming Thanksgiving and Holiday performances!
One of Leeann's most recent commissions in her role as Composer-in-Residence with the Indianapolis Children's Choir led her to utilize a poem by a local woman in Columbus, IN. Read the feature on the collaboration and be on the lookout for its publication in the coming year! Many thanks to The Republic newspaper for their interest in the story.
